Strengthening legal systems: Italy's engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo - The project aimed at strengthening the capacity and coordination of the judiciary and law enforcement in Bosnia and Herzegovina against corruption and economic crime has been officially launched by AICS Tirana and UNODC - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The main partners and beneficiaries of the activities funded by AICS will be local judicial institutions, such as the High Judicial Council, the judicial training centers of the Republika Srpska and the Federation, and the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight Against Corruption. The goal is to enhance the capacity to conduct financial investigations and engage in asset recovery, implementing anti-corruption strategies and promoting better coordination among police, prosecutors, and other stakeholders. The project aims to contribute to meeting the requirements set by the European Union for the accession process concerning the fight against corruption and organized crime, supporting the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (of which Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member state) and promoting the achievement of sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 16 related to peace, justice, and strong institutions. During her address, the director of AICS Tirana, Stefania Vizzaccaro, emphasized the role of Bosnian institutions, which “have shown a clear willingness to work together to create a stronger legal system, playing a role not only as beneficiaries but also as active protagonists in the reform process, essential to achieving our shared ambitions of transparency, integrity, and justice.” (9colonne)
