Santo Domingo – After 12 years of absence, the 12th International Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism was inaugurated at the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo. The theme of this edition, where Italy is the guest country, is "Eutopias: construyendo ideas para el futuro" ("Eutopias: Building Ideas for the Future"). It featured the participation of architects Marco Casamonti, Alessandro Melis, and Carlo Ratti, who will be the commissioner of the 2025 Venice Biennale. A special exhibition showcasing the main projects of these professionals and university professors will be open to the public until December 31.
"The Italian presence at this edition of the BIAU represents an extraordinary showcase for our talents in a global context and reaffirms the importance of promoting our architectural culture, which not only has its roots in ancient Rome but continues to be highly relevant," emphasized Francesco Gravina, president of the Language and Italian Culture Commission of the Comites in Santo Domingo and president of the Union of Schools and Faculties of Architecture in the Dominican Republic.
Licia Colombo, president of the Comites of Santo Domingo, added: "Welcoming the Italian contribution to such a prestigious event is a clear sign of the prestige and respect Italy has earned internationally. It is a source of pride to see how our architects are able to inspire and positively influence the global architectural scene." (9colonne)
