Eni has received the “Gold Standard Reporting” from the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) for its commitment to methane emission reporting with the highest data quality standards. OGMP 2.0 is an initiative of the International Methane Emissions Observatory of the United Nations Environment Programme, aimed at establishing the global standard for the reliability and transparency of methane emissions reporting in the oil and gas sector, a crucial step for tracking and effectively addressing mitigation actions through real data.

Eni joined OGMP 2.0 in 2020, committing to set emission reduction targets and progressively enhance the transparency and accuracy of its reporting, which are prerequisites for measuring the effectiveness of the mitigation actions implemented. Eni's efforts were recognized in 2023 with the "Gold Standard Pathway" for significantly improving its methane emissions reporting implementation plans in accordance with OGMP 2.0 recommendations. This year, the company was awarded the “Gold Standard Reporting” for achieving the highest levels of data quality.

Eni believes that natural gas plays a role in the energy transition toward 2050 due to its cost-effectiveness, reliability, versatility, and lower carbon content compared to other fossil fuels. However, global action is needed to eliminate methane leaks across the entire natural gas value chain. Eni has set a goal to eliminate methane emissions by 2030 and has more than halved emissions between 2018 and 2023.
