CNR President Maria Chiara Carrozza, along with a delegation from the institution, is on an international mission to Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico until February 8, with the aim of promoting and fostering bilateral collaboration with institutions and researchers.
In Panama City, a landmark framework agreement was signed for the first time with SENACyT (Secretaría Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación), the country’s leading institution dedicated to scientific research, technology, and innovation. The agreement was signed by Carrozza and SENACyT’s National Secretary, Eduardo Ortega Barría, who stated:
“SENACyT's commitment is to position Panama as a regional leader in science, technology, and innovation. In this context, partnerships with institutions like the Italian CNR are essential to integrating the country into advanced sectors, attracting talent, and generating economic and social impact. Areas of common interest will be explored, with a focus on capacity building in semiconductors. Other fields of interest include critical and emerging technologies, physical sciences and materials technology, biomedical sciences, environmental and earth sciences, physics and matter, chemistry, and materials technology, among others.”
“Bilateral cooperation,” Carrozza emphasized, “will allow us to address crucial issues such as climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, and technological development by leveraging the expertise and research infrastructures available. Thanks to this agreement, Panamanian researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with CNR’s numerous institutes, which cover a broad range of scientific disciplines and offer cutting-edge facilities for research and innovation. This will foster new synergies and strengthen ties between the scientific communities of both countries.”
