From Monday to Friday, BigItalyFocus provides an information overview, ranged from development aid to made in Italy
Titled “Viva Verdi! From Nabucco to Otello”, this podcast has been produced by the Italian Cultural Institute in Moscow in a bilingual Italian-Russian version. Eight Italian musicologists from the Ugo and Olga Levi Music Foundation in Venice have created a series of materials for the Italian Cultural Institutes in Moscow and St. Petersburg, offering insights into the figure of Giuseppe Verdi from various, often unfamiliar, perspectives for Russian listeners. Listeners will discover what abbreviation lies behind the composer’s surname and why he was called “the maestro of the Italian revolution.” With a time-travel effect, the audience will step into Verdi’s studio and explore the techniques that made his music immortal. Three episodes dedicated to Verdi’s presence in Russia trace the cultural ties between the two countries in the 19th century and reconstruct the Italian composer’s contribution to the history of Russian opera. The group of Italian musicologists reveals how Verdi’s work transcended the boundaries of the theater and maps his journey from lesser-known operas to those that have become part of the world's cultural heritage.
