Ambassador Buccino Grimaldi, accompanied by the Consul General in Madrid, Spartaco Caldararo, and the Defence Attaché, Navy Captain Massimiliano Siragusa, visited Málaga on 28 July. In the Andalusian city, the Ambassador held a cordial meeting with the Mayor, Francisco de la Torre Prados, which provided an opportunity to discuss the Italian community and businesses in Málaga, where a large portion of the over 40,000 Italian citizens residing in Andalusia live. This community is well integrated into the city's social, cultural, and scientific fabric, further enhanced by the ever-increasing number of Italian tourists contributing to record figures of foreign visitors to Andalusia. The Ambassador also visited the port of Málaga, where he boarded the state-of-the-art multi-role amphibious ship Trieste. He was welcomed by the Commander, Navy Captain Francesco Marzi. The Trieste, the most significant vessel in the Italian Navy, was built by Fincantieri and Leonardo and delivered in December 2024. This was its first call at a Spanish port, taking place during a training voyage for first-year cadets from the Livorno Naval Academy. On this occasion, several local authorities were present on board, including Mayor de la Torre Prados, the Spanish Government Delegate in Málaga, Francisco Javier Salas Ruiz, and the Naval Commander of Málaga, Navy Captain Pablo Murga Gómez.
