Italian exports to Switzerland soar: +18.4% in first half of 2025

Switzerland continues to prove a key market for Italian exports, recording an 18.4% increase in June 2025. According to a statement from the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Switzerland, in a context of heightened geopolitical caution, Switzerland stands out as one of the most dynamic destinations for Italian exports. ISTAT data for the first half of 2025 shows a year-on-year rise of +18.4%, far surpassing the average growth of Italian exports to non-EU countries (+4.7%). This confirms the strategic importance of the Swiss market for Italian SMEs, particularly at a time when attention is shifting towards diversifying markets and seeking alternatives to the US market. The surge in Made in Italy exports to Switzerland has been driven particularly by demand for capital goods and non-durable consumer goods—two sectors in which Italian firms are internationally recognised for their excellence. This positive trend forms part of a broader recovery in trade with non-EU countries, where exports grew by 6% on a monthly basis between January and June 2025. Interestingly, while Italian exports to Switzerland increased, imports from Switzerland to Italy fell by 14.1%. This trade imbalance may offer Italian businesses an opportunity to further strengthen their position in the Swiss market by filling potential gaps left by other suppliers.
