São Paulo – The photography exhibition “Arquipélago. Culturas Insulares” by Corinna Del Bianco is still on display at the Italian Cultural Institute in São Paulo. The exhibition explores the “culture of relationships developed by island communities in synergy with their natural local environment, allowing for their survival and adaptation to often inhospitable settings with limited resources”. It offers a reflection on the productivity of Italian islands, which sometimes manifests in agricultural forms. As part of the framework of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, Archipelago is a photographic research project aimed at documenting and highlighting the diversity of Mediterranean islands and their cultural identity. Visual artist and researcher Corinna Del Bianco studies and documents the cultural landscape of various places. She holds a PhD with honours in architectural, urban, and interior design from the Politecnico di Milano, where she currently teaches urban design.
