From Rome to Lima: the sounds of Morricone & Friends

Italian jazz lands in Lima on Monday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 5, as the Gianni Oddi Quartet brings its unique sound to the Peruvian capital for a two-day event featuring a concert and a masterclass. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between CIDIM – the Italian National Music Committee – and the Italian Cultural Institute of Lima. The quartet, composed of Gianni Oddi (alto/soprano sax), Alessandro Bonanno (piano/keyboard), Stefano Napoli (bass), and Massimiliano Di Cristofaro (percussion), will perform on Monday, August 4 at 7 p.m. at the Auditorio “Blanca Varela” during the 2025 Lima International Book Fair. This major cultural event, which runs through August 6, celebrates Italy as Guest of Honour under the theme “Latin Connections: 150 Years of Friendship”. The Italian program features 50 events, five exhibitions, a film series, and three concerts—culminating in the performance by the Gianni Oddi Quartet. Their show, titled “Morricone & Friends”, pays tribute to legendary Italian composers including Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Piero Piccioni, and Armando Trovajoli. “The jazz offered by this ensemble is of remarkable quality,” explains Francescantonio Pollice, President of CIDIM and AIAM (Italian Association of Musical Activities). “These are melodies known and loved around the world, interpreted with heartfelt admiration by Italian musicians honoring composers who truly shaped the history of music.”
