Saipem has announced that Aker BP has exercised its option to extend the existing contract for the Scarabeo 8 semi-submersible drilling unit, originally awarded in March 2022. This new extension, which follows a previous one-year add-on, will keep the rig in operation until December 31, 2027. During this period, the Scarabeo 8 will continue to operate offshore Norway on behalf of Aker BP. A sixth-generation drilling unit owned by Saipem, the Scarabeo 8 is designed to perform in challenging offshore environments. It features a dynamic positioning system (DP) and an advanced mooring system, fully compliant with the industry's most stringent regulatory standards. With a solid track record of successful operations for major oil and gas companies, the Scarabeo 8 is active on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, including in the Barents Sea. This contract extension further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Saipem and Aker BP, marking an important step in their shared commitment to delivering world-class performance and operational excellence, aligned with the highest standards of safety and efficiency in the industry.
