Toronto – Opening on Thursday, September 4 at 6 p.m. at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery of the Columbus Centre, On New Ground is a wide-ranging retrospective dedicated to Italian artist Giuseppe Mercurio, curated by Francesca Valente.
The exhibition, running from September 5 to 29, is presented by Villa Charities in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto and the Italian Cultural Institute. Featuring more than thirty works, it spans twenty years of Mercurio’s creative journey, from early black-and-white photography to recent acrylic paintings marked by vivid colors and experimental techniques. The exhibition weaves together personal memory and visual research, evoking both the landscapes and the spirit of Calabria, the artist’s homeland.
