Athens – After a successful pilot experience launched in Moscow in 2019, the Centro per il libro e la lettura is relaunching the Premio Intersezioni with an Italy–Greece edition, inaugurating in Athens a new phase of the project that reaffirms the strategic role of translation as a key instrument for the circulation of works and ideas and as an authentic cultural practice. Promoted by the Centro per il libro e la lettura of the Italian Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Atene, with the support of the association Giri di parole, the prize marks a significant step forward. The new format introduces three awards, replacing the original structure that included only a single winner. The change expands opportunities for the dissemination of contemporary Italian fiction and highlights its diversity. The Greek edition also opens a new phase of the project, conceived as a continuous and itinerant initiative that will expand to other countries through the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the global network of Italian Cultural Institutes. The jury is chaired by Giuseppe Iannaccone, president of the Centro per il libro e la lettura, and Francesco Neri. Members include Periklis Dimitrolopoulos, director of the daily newspaper To Vima; writer Ersi Sotiropoulos; Ioannis Tsolkas, professor of Italian Literature and European Culture at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens; Maria Panetta, professor of Contemporary Italian Literature and vice president of CRIC; writer and critic Alberto Rollo; and Gianluigi Simonetti, professor of Contemporary Italian Literature and Comparative Literature at the University of Lausanne. The nominated works — published between January 1 and December 31, 2025 and proposed by the Italian members of the jury — will be evaluated by the Greek jury alongside the permanent members, according to a process that combines literary quality with potential reception in the Greek publishing market. The prize consists of a total contribution of €15,000, intended to support the translation of the winning works (€5,000 each). The funds will be awarded to Greek publishers who acquire the rights and commit to publishing the books. The winning titles will be announced on May 15 at the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino – in the year when Greece is the guest of honor – while the award ceremony will take place on June 18 in Athens, in the presence of the winning authors.
