From Pretoria to Windhoek: Joburg Ballet honors Puccini's legacy

Pretoria – The Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, has announced the theatrical tour of the Joburg Ballet, which will be held in Pretoria, Sasolburg, and Windhoek. To commemorate the centenary of his death, the Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria pays tribute to the genius of Giacomo Puccini and three of his most famous works: Madama Butterfly, Tosca, and La Bohème. Renowned for his emotionally charged operas, Puccini is an imposing figure in the history of classical music. His works are celebrated for their lush melodies and vivid characterizations, capturing the essence of the human experience. Despite personal challenges, he remained dedicated to his art, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the greatest opera composers of all time. The ballet choreography is entrusted to Mario Gaglione, solo dancer and choreographer with the prestigious ballet company. Here is the performance schedule: August 24, 2024, at 6:30 PM - Atterbury Theatre, 4 Daventry Street, Lynnwood Manor, Pretoria; September 1, 2024, at 6:30 PM - Etienne Rousseau Theatre, 8 John Vorster Ave, Sasolburg; the final performance in Namibia, in collaboration with the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Windhoek, will take place on November 1 at the National Theatre of Namibia, Robert Mugabe Ave, Windhoek, Namibia.
