Italy and Algeria strengthen partnership in strategic dialogue at Farnesina

Rome - On August 5, the Farnesina hosted the Strategic Dialogue between Italy and Algeria, a consultation mechanism between the two countries that has become increasingly important for sustaining the partnership between Rome and Algiers. "Algeria is a natural partner for Italy, both economically and politically. Our country aims to further strengthen cooperation with the southern shore of the Mediterranean to address common challenges together," stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani. He also added that "dialogue with Algiers is crucial for promoting de-escalation in the Middle East and contributing to the stability of the entire region." The Italian and Algerian delegations met in three working groups dedicated to political and security cooperation, economic cooperation and the Mattei Plan for Africa, and bilateral cooperation on technical and cultural issues. At the end of the meetings, co-chaired by the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Amb. Riccardo Guariglia, and his Algerian counterpart, Lounès Magramane, a summary document was signed containing operational guidelines for further strengthening bilateral relations. The importance of enhancing political and security cooperation to make the Mediterranean a space of peace and dialogue was particularly emphasized. On the sidelines of the Strategic Dialogue, Amb. Guariglia and Amb. Magramane held a productive bilateral meeting to discuss some of the issues addressed during the sessions. (9colonne)
