Rabat - As part of the Biennale KARACENA 2024, the Italian Embassy in Rabat and the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat are supporting the participation of the Italian company BlucinQue for the production of the circus performance "Progetto Coppelia" on August 23, 24, and 25, 2024. The performances are part of the promotion of cultural exchanges between the Association for the Promotion of Italian Circus Arts and its Moroccan counterpart, École Nationale de Cirque Shems’y de Salé, founded by AMESIP – the Moroccan Association for the Assistance of Children in Difficult Situations and organizer of the Biennale Karacena 2024.
"Progetto Coppelia" is inspired by the ballet Coppelia and, through techniques of classical and contemporary dance, as well as the ancient technique of capillary suspension, becomes a reflection on the themes of women's identity, their fragility, the constraints of roles, and their strength, set to the music of Delibes and accompanied by cellist Bea Zanin. The project is also inspired by Ballet Mécanique (1924), the work of Fernand Léger from early cubist cinema. The film contains numerous symbols and meanings related to this performance, leading us to a ballet where the details of bodies and objects in motion – set to a rhythm edited and integrated with the music of composer George Antheil – come to life through continuous repetitions, slowdowns, and accelerations. The choreography is performed by Mrs. Caterina Mochi Sismondi. (9colonne)
